These are challenging times times and most people are out of routine. For some people that can come with incapacitating pain or a debilitating change to their functional abilities. Support is still available for you!
We have been hearing back for so many patients with thanks for the confidence and skills to adapt to their life at home activities. For the past several weeks you’ve been receiving additional emails, reading posts, blogs and social media from us reminding you of all the ways we’ve built a support system for you.
Downsview Chiropractic has been serving this community for 35 years. Although patients have typically been seen at our office, so much of what we do is teach patients to self-manage more effectively. We are now able to offer these services via video visits through a secure platform. If you could do passover/easter by FaceTime you can do this.
This is a way to attend a Chiropractic appointment from the comfort of your own home or office. This fully secure service will allow us to have face-to-face video conferencing with you, the patient, at a pre-booked appointment time. In an appointment such as this, we can offer health care advice, movement assessment, self mobilization techniques, exercise program design, and rehabilitation (rehab) exercise design and modification. This service is covered by most insurance companies and we will still be able to direct bill this service for you through our clinic.
Perttu Riipinen, a researcher at the University of South Wales points out:
“As a healthcare professional (chiropractor), the upmost importance in patient care is the ability to triage patient to appropriate care, and this has been the foundation of my training in University. This requires patient interviewing skills and a thorough history taking. Based on this we can refer if there is a suspicion of a serious condition that would need more urgent medical care. This is extremely rare however, estimated up to 1-2% of all low back pain cases for example.
Based on the thorough assessment, we can provide education and advice about the condition, reassure, and give management options including an exercise programme that creates a robust self-management programme. In fact, according to current clinical guidelines, these are key pillars of “best care” for musculoskeletal pain management. “
If you’ve visited our North York clinic any time over the past many years, you likely would have heard us talk about “multi-modal care“. We didn’t invent the term – turns out it is the gold standard approach for many of the neck pain and associated disorders, and low back pain and associated disorders that brings people to our clinic in the first place. We’ve even written about it in previous blogs and newsletters. We’ve been using this approach with our patients for almost ‘as long as it’s been a thing‘.
These are unprecedented times. We are excited to be able to offer this unique solution to our shared unique challenge.
Care. That makes the difference™.
